BROWN, ORIGAMI & ANDREW PHELAN | Don't Ever Stop
(2.21.06) Nottingham producer and vocalist Brown has teamed up with San Francisco residents Andrew Phelan & Origami for the first of many upcoming projects together. Brown has been collaborating with some of the hottest names in house recently, including Inland Knights, Littlemen, Bryan Jones, and Swirl People. His recent release on Aroma with Steve Littlemen, “Changing”, has been flying off shelves worldwide. Andrew Phelan & Origami are new names to many, but surely won’t be for long, with over 15 releases lined up for the coming year on labels such as So Sound, Turnaround-Sound, Dusted Roots, Newstylesound, and Andrew’s own label Prismatic. As the newest inhabitants of SF’s famed Moulton Studios complex, the duo are pushing a unique song based, instrument driven style of house that doesn’t forget the dancefloor. Their upcoming releases feature a variety of live bass, guitar, rhodes, sax, trumpet and vocal work. Andrew & Origami’s mix on the A Side features a multi-layered cut up of Brown’s vocals to go with a bleep happy bassline, funk guitar, and a nasty sub filled bassline on the breakdown that’s sure to get any crowd moving. Be on the lookout for much more from these up and comers. Brown’s mix on the B Side features reworked vocals, live drums, funky keys, and a rhodes solo towards the end that bring his impressive keyboard skills to light. With an expanding list of collaborations, his own label Brown Recordings, and an upcoming solo album, look for much more from Brown in the near future.
